Frenchy will be on-hand at this year’s Crescent City Blues & BBQ Festival to paint the legendary Funky Meters. This is an event you don’t want to miss. If you’re in town you better make it down to Lafayette Square Park this weekend (October 16-18) for some authentic Nawlins food and entertainment.
Since both Frenchy and the Meters are ingrained in New Orleans culture they’ve met a few times. Frenchy captured the iconic funk group at Jazz Fest in 2010 (The Funky Meters).
He was able to translate the bands funk and grooves into a live painting once again in 2011 for the New Orleans VooDoo Fest (The Original Meters).
If you’re not aware, The Funky Meters began as The Meters and were early progenitors of funk music alongside other pioneers like James Brown. They were able to use hometown influences to develop their tight grooves and signature sound. As the band line-up changed they played as the Funky Meters to avoid confusion with the all-original line-up, which jams together less frequently.
To make this show even more special, Funky Meters will be joined by thee Allen Toussaint and Irma Thomas.
